Correspondence

Old Stone Newsletter from Division of Historical Resources (DHR) had a few points

-         a law of 1791 has been amended for protection of stonewalls

-         State Library has a new data base ‘Connecting to Collections’ to raise public awareness – www.nh365.org where all NH cultural events are posted and distributed to many different calendars throughout the state

-         DHR – They can help us get a facilitator/coordinator for the master plan

Heritage Day

- Spinney Meeting House had 46 guests and 7 musicians.  It was recorded by Jim Miller and he put it on a DVD and has given it to us.  It will also go on the PEG channel.  Friends of Spinney Meeting House provide lemonade and cookies.  Some books on the history were sold, 3 box lunches were sold and a couple people became members.

- The walking tour in the historical district was led by Peter Brown.  Seven people were there for the tour.  Some were summer residents and others were visiting.

- Union Station a donation was made by Harold Wentworth.  He donated some railroad artifacts.  Nancy B. will make up the cards and they need to be sent.  If anyone sees any newspaper articles on WHC please save them for the next WHC meeting.

Spinney Meeting House

Volunteers are needed to help scrape, prime and paint some portions of the meeting house.  A date has been set for September 26th at 8:30 AM.  Rain date is October 3rd.

Appreciation Day

The date scheduled is Sunday, September 13th from 1:00-3:00.

Invitations need to be done.

Food – Nancy B. and Pam – hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks

Tables and chairs

Transportation of Enhancement Funds

Pam reported on a workshop she attended.  Because the town did not pay any dues to Strafford Regional Planning we would loose 15 points as these projects are scored.  Knowing how much work it would be to apply for the grant it was agreed that this commission would be better off to put their energy into getting some things at the station done.

Union Station

In the next year the WHC would like to get the semaphore complete and on the roof, get the station masters office together and move the bathroom to the back

In 2011 the WHC would like to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Union Station.

The stain needs to be put on the stairs right away to prevent it from cracking.  Check with Terry for the color of the stain for the railcar.

The semi fore post is at Dave Towle’s. Chris Bancroft will sandblast and weld the hardware as needed. Phil has painted the signals and the lens should be in this week.  When all the pieces are done, Dave Towle will put it all together.

Website

www.wakefieldheritagecommission.com is not up yet.  There is a test site.  John will send members the link to the test site.  Things still needed are; DHR scenic by-way, history of WHC, photos, upcoming events, links to websites, list of members, and highlights.

At 8:48 meeting was adjourned.
